Our School Day

Hours

  • Reception and Year 1 start at 8.45 and finish at 3.30 p.m.
  • Year 2 upwards start at 8.30 and finish at 3.15 p.m.

This amounts to 33.75 hours per week. The times shown are the compulsory attendance hours, including breaks, but not optional before or after school activities.

Registration

Registers are taken at 9:00 a.m. for morning sessions and 1:00 p.m. for afternoon sessions.

Assemblies

9:10 – 9:30 a.m. Each day children in Y1 – Y6 take part in an assembly.

Morning Playtimes

Currently children have their breaks in bubbles at staggered times.

Lunch hours (approximate times only)

  • Children in Reception start lunch at 11:50 a.m.
  • Children in Y1 and Y2 have lunch at 12 noon.
  • Children in Y3 – Y6 begin lunch at 12:15 p.m.
  • Lunch ends for all at 1:00 p.m.

Afternoon Playtimes

There are no formal afternoon playtimes. However, staff may schedule a short ‘learning break’ should the children require it.

End of School

School closes for all at 3:30 p.m.

Drop Off and Collection

To help foster positive relationships between home and school, parents are encouraged on to our playground at the beginning and end of each school day. Each morning, classroom doors open at 8:45 a.m. for breakfast. To ensure your child’s safety, please ensure that they do not arrive before this time unless they are attending Breakfast Club or are supervised by parents.

At the end of afternoon, unless attending a pre-arranged activity or After School Club, children should have been met by a parent or left the premises by 3:40 p.m. Please let us know as soon as possible if normal arrangements have been altered (e.g. you are unavoidably delayed or another person is collecting your child). This avoids any confusion or upset for your child.

Parking

Please be aware that due to very limited space, the school car parks are for staff, disabled visitors only and Marton Suite only (drop offs are permitted).

Please try to arrive early as Whernside can become extremely busy at peak times. Road side parking is not permitted and is enforced by Blackpool Council.

The Co-operative Store on Highfield Road have kindly agreed to let Marton parents and guardians use their carpark. Please also refrain from parking or stopping in front of the school gates. Parking here causes an obstruction for the children when crossing the road and prevents emergency vehicles from being able to access school.
